Sending GIFs

A great GIF is worth a thousand words. eChat has a built-in GIF search powered by NovaGIFs, so you can find and send the perfect animated clip in seconds.

How to send a GIF

Open a conversation

Navigate to any DM, group chat, or channel where you want to send a GIF.

Tap the GIF icon

In the message input bar, tap the GIF button.

Search for a GIF

Type a keyword in the search field — for example, “happy”, “thumbs up”, “excited”, “reaction” — and the results will update in real time.

Select and send

Tap the GIF you want to send. It’s sent immediately to the conversation — no extra “Send” button needed.
If you open the GIF picker without searching, you’ll see a selection of trending and popular GIFs to inspire you. Browse through them and tap any one to send it.

How GIFs appear in chat

GIFs appear as animated images inline in the conversation. They loop automatically and are displayed at a readable size so they don’t take over the screen. Tap a GIF to view it full screen in the media viewer. Tap ✕ to close.

Tips for using GIFs

  • Keep it relevant — GIFs add humor and personality, but one well-chosen GIF is better than several at once.
  • Search specifically — The more specific your search term, the better the results. Try “mic drop” instead of just “drop”.
  • Works in groups too — GIFs are supported in group chats and channels, not just DMs.
Search by emotion or situation rather than objects — terms like “mind blown”, “awkward silence”, or “slow clap” tend to return the most expressive results.
