Notifications
Stay on top of messages and incoming calls with eChat’s notification system. eChat supports push notifications that arrive even when the app is closed or running in the background.Types of notifications
Enabling push notifications
Push notifications require your browser’s permission. Here’s how to enable them:1
Open Settings
Go to the Settings screen in eChat.
2
Find Notifications
Scroll to the Notifications section.
3
Tap 'Enable Notifications'
Tap the enable toggle or button. Your browser will display a permission prompt.
4
Allow notifications
In the browser prompt, tap or click Allow. eChat will register this device for push notifications.
Push notifications work best when eChat is installed as a PWA on your device. Installed apps receive notifications even when the browser is fully closed.
Disabling push notifications
To turn off notifications for eChat: Via eChat Settings:- Go to Settings → Notifications.
- Toggle push notifications off.
- Tap the lock icon (🔒) or info icon (ℹ) in the address bar.
- Find Notifications and set it to Block.
Notification sounds
eChat plays a sound when you receive a new message (if the app is open and active). You can turn this off:- Go to Settings.
- Find the Notification Sound toggle.
- Toggle it off to silence in-app message sounds.
Push notification sounds (when the app is in the background) are controlled by your device’s system notification settings, not eChat’s in-app settings.
Managing devices
eChat supports push notifications on up to 5 devices simultaneously. This means you can receive notifications on your phone, tablet, and desktop at the same time. To manage your registered devices:- Go to Settings → Notifications.
- A list of registered notification devices is shown.
- Remove a device from the list if you no longer want it to receive notifications.
If you’ve reached the 5-device limit, you’ll need to remove an existing device before adding a new one.
