Reactions & Replies

eChat gives you two great ways to respond to a specific message without cluttering the chat: reactions and replies.

Reacting to a message

Reactions let you respond quickly with an emoji instead of writing a full response. They’re perfect for acknowledging something, showing appreciation, or expressing a feeling at a glance.

How to react

  1. Long-press (mobile) or hover and click the emoji icon (desktop) on any message.
  2. A reaction picker appears with the available emojis.
  3. Tap the emoji you want to add.

Available reactions

Reaction counts

Reactions are displayed beneath the message as small emoji badges with a count showing how many people reacted with that emoji. Tap a reaction badge to see who reacted.

Removing a reaction

Tap the same emoji again on the reaction badge beneath the message to remove your reaction.

Replying to a message

Replying lets you quote a specific message to give context to your response — especially useful in busy group chats.

How to reply

  1. Long-press (mobile) or right-click (desktop) on the message you want to reply to.
  2. Select Reply from the context menu.
  3. A preview of the original message appears above the input bar, showing the sender’s name and message content.
  4. Type your reply in the input field.
  5. Tap Send.

How replies look

Your reply message will display a quoted block at the top showing:
  • The original sender’s name
  • A preview of their message (text or media thumbnail)
Tapping the quoted block in a reply will scroll up to the original message in the conversation.

Cancelling a reply

To cancel a reply before sending:
  • Tap the ✕ button next to the quoted preview above the input bar.

In a busy group chat, always use Reply when responding to a specific person’s message — it keeps the conversation clear and easy to follow.
