Setting Up Your Profile

When you sign in to eChat for the first time, you’ll go through a short onboarding flow to set up your profile. Your profile is how other users find and recognize you.

Onboarding walkthrough

After signing in, eChat automatically launches the onboarding screens:
1

Enter your name

Type in your first name. This is used in conversation lists and call screens.
2

Choose a display name

Your display name is your public-facing handle, the name other users see in chats and when searching for you. Pick something you’d like to be known by.
3

Upload a profile photo

Tap the avatar circle to select a photo from your device. A clear, well-lit photo helps friends recognize you at a glance. You can skip this step and add a photo later in Settings.
4

Get your Chattercode

eChat automatically assigns you a unique 7-digit Chattercode. This is your identifier on the platform, share it with friends so they can add you as a contact even if they don’t know your email address.

What is a Chattercode?

Your Chattercode is a 7-digit number unique to your account. Think of it like a username that’s guaranteed to be unique. You can find your Chattercode in your profile settings. To share it:
  • Screenshot your profile page and send it to someone.
  • Read it out loud or copy-paste it into another message.
Anyone with your Chattercode can add you as a contact on eChat.

Updating your profile later

You can update your profile at any time from the Settings page:
  1. Open the eChat menu or navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap your profile photo or name to edit them.
  3. Make your changes and save.
Profile photo changes and display name updates are reflected in real time across all your conversations.

Profile visibility

Your display name and profile photo are visible to:
  • Anyone who has added you as a contact.
  • Anyone in a shared group or channel.
Your Chattercode is only shared when you choose to share it. Your email address is never displayed publicly.
Choose a display name that’s easy to spell and recognize. Friends will see this name when they search for you by Chattercode.
