Installing eChat on Your Device

eChat is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means it can be installed directly from your browser onto any device, no app store needed. Once installed, it behaves just like a native app: it launches from your home screen, runs in its own window, and works even with a spotty connection.

Installing on Android

Open eChat in Chrome

Launch Google Chrome and navigate to the eChat app URL.

Tap the install prompt

Chrome will display a banner at the bottom of the screen that says “Add eChat to Home screen”. Tap Install.If you don’t see the banner, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner and select “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.

Confirm installation

A dialog will ask you to confirm. Tap Install or Add.

Launch from your home screen

eChat now appears on your home screen like any other app. Tap it to open.

Installing on iPhone / iPad (iOS)

Open eChat in Safari

iOS requires Safari to install PWAs. Open Safari and navigate to the eChat app URL.

Tap the Share button

Tap the Share icon (the box with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.

Select 'Add to Home Screen'

Scroll through the share sheet and tap “Add to Home Screen”.

Name and confirm

You can rename the shortcut if you like, then tap Add in the top-right corner.

Open from your home screen

eChat will now appear on your iOS home screen. Tap it to launch.

Installing on Desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Open eChat in Chrome or Edge

Navigate to the eChat app URL in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.

Click the install icon

In Chrome, look for a computer with a download arrow icon (⊕) in the address bar on the right. In Edge, look for a similar icon. Click it.

Click 'Install'

A prompt will appear. Click Install to confirm.

Launch from your taskbar or app launcher

eChat is now installed as a desktop app. Find it in your Start menu, Applications folder, or directly on your taskbar/dock.

The in-app install banner

When you’re using eChat in a browser, you may see an install banner at the top of the screen. This is eChat’s built-in prompt encouraging you to install for the best experience:
  • Tap Install to go straight to the installation steps for your device.
  • Tap the share icon on the banner to copy your personal invite link and share eChat with a friend.
  • Tap ✕ to dismiss the banner. It won’t reappear during that session.

Updating eChat

eChat updates automatically in the background. When a new version is ready, you’ll see a small update notification at the bottom of the screen. Tap Reload to apply the update immediately, or the app will update the next time you launch it.
Install eChat on your phone to get the full push notification experience, receive message and call alerts even when the app isn’t open.
