Tips & Tricks
Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been using eChat for a while, these tips will help you communicate faster, smarter, and more expressively.Messaging tips
Use Markdown for richer messages
eChat renders Markdown in messages. Here are the most useful formatting shortcuts:
Use bold to highlight key points, italic for emphasis, and code formatting when sharing technical content.
Shift + Enter for multi-line messages
Pressing Enter sends your message. Pressing Shift + Enter inserts a line break instead, letting you write multi-paragraph messages before sending.Reply to keep threads clear
In busy group chats, always use the Reply feature when responding to a specific message. It shows the quoted message alongside your reply so everyone knows what you’re referring to — no more “what are you replying to?” confusion.React instead of typing “ok”
For simple acknowledgments, reactions are faster and cleaner than typing a message. A quick 👍 says everything without cluttering the conversation.Edit your messages
If you send a message with a typo or want to clarify something, long-press the message and tap Edit. The corrected message shows an (edited) tag, so recipients know it was updated.GIF & media tips
Search GIFs by emotion, not object
The best GIF searches are emotion-based: try “excited”, “not sure”, “slow clap”, “awkward”, or “mind blown” for great results. Searching for objects usually returns less expressive results.Send voice notes when typing is tedious
Voice notes are perfect when you have a long or nuanced message to send. They’re faster to record than type, and your tone of voice adds context that text can’t convey. Great for emotional support, complex explanations, or a casual chat.Group images together
Sending photos one after another in quick succession causes them to display as a natural photo burst in the conversation. It’s a clean way to share a small album without creating clutter.Call tips
Mute yourself when you’re not speaking
In any call — especially group calls — mute yourself when you’re not actively talking. This prevents background noise (fans, pets, keyboard) from disrupting the call for others, and improves overall audio quality.Use headphones or earbuds
Headphones prevent your speaker audio from leaking into your microphone (echo). Even basic earbuds make a big difference in call quality for everyone.Turn off video on a weak connection
If your connection is unreliable, turning off your camera frees up bandwidth for the audio stream. You’ll have a clearer call at the cost of video.Pre-configure audio before answering
When an incoming call arrives, use the microphone and camera toggles on the incoming call screen to set your audio/video preferences before you answer. No awkward scrambling after you pick up.Enable noise suppression in a noisy place
If you’re in a coffee shop, on transit, or anywhere noisy, open Call Settings and make sure noise suppression is turned on. It filters out ambient noise so your voice comes through clearly.App & setup tips
Install eChat for the best experience
The installed PWA version of eChat is faster, more reliable, and supports full push notifications (including incoming call alerts even when your browser is closed). See Installing eChat for platform-specific instructions.Use conversation tabs to filter your chats
On the Chat screen, use the All / Channels / DMs tabs to filter your conversations. If you follow several channels, switch to the DMs tab to focus on personal conversations without the noise.Share your Chattercode to grow your contact list
Your Chattercode is your public identity on eChat. Drop it in a bio, share it in other social apps, or text it to friends to make it easy for them to add you without needing your email.Pin or star important conversations
Keep your most-used conversations easily accessible. Use the conversation management options to pin or prioritize chats so they’re always at the top of your list.Keep eChat updated
eChat updates in the background, but when you see the “Update available” banner, tap Reload to get the latest features and improvements right away.Privacy & etiquette tips
Chattercode ≠ phone number
Your Chattercode is yours to share or keep private. Unlike a phone number, sharing it doesn’t expose your personal contact information — it only lets people find you on eChat.Use channels for one-way announcements
If you run a community or want to share updates without managing replies, create a channel instead of a group. Only admins can post, keeping the feed clean and focused.Block proactively
Don’t hesitate to use the Block feature. Blocking someone is private (they won’t be notified) and takes effect immediately.Keyboard shortcuts (desktop)
